Background of the Study
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are a significant concern in healthcare settings, particularly among nurses who engage in physically demanding tasks such as lifting patients, prolonged standing, and repetitive motions (Mbah et al., 2024). Nurses are at high risk for developing MSDs, which can lead to chronic pain, reduced mobility, and increased absenteeism, ultimately affecting the quality of patient care (Eze et al., 2023). Workplace ergonomics, which involves designing work environments to fit the needs of workers and reduce physical strain, is an essential strategy for preventing MSDs (Oyemade et al., 2024). At Bayelsa State General Hospital, where nursing staff often perform strenuous physical tasks, it is important to assess nurses' knowledge of ergonomic practices and how these practices are applied in daily work routines. This study will evaluate the level of awareness among nurses regarding workplace ergonomics and explore the preventive measures they adopt to reduce the incidence of MSDs.
Statement of the Problem
The prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among healthcare workers, particularly nurses, is a growing concern. Improper lifting techniques, repetitive motions, and long hours of standing increase the risk of MSDs (Mbah et al., 2024). At Bayelsa State General Hospital, there is limited research on nurses' knowledge of ergonomic principles and how well these principles are integrated into their daily practice. Lack of awareness or inadequate application of ergonomic practices may contribute to a high incidence of MSDs, affecting both the health of nurses and the efficiency of patient care. This study will assess nurses' knowledge of workplace ergonomics and their practices in preventing musculoskeletal disorders.

- To evaluate the ergonomic practices implemented by nurses in preventing musculoskeletal disorders.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on nurses working at Bayelsa State General Hospital who are involved in tasks that carry a high risk of musculoskeletal disorders. A limitation is that the study will depend on self-reported data, which may not fully reflect the actual practices. Additionally, the findings may not be generalized to other hospitals or healthcare settings.
